1. There is no law in India which prohibits two adult and consenting couple to spent night in hotel room.
2. However, police tries to harass the couple by threatening to put charges under immoral traffic prevention Act, 1986.
3. Fearing social stigma, the couple succumb to the demands of the police.

The Supreme Court ofIndianowhere states that it is illegal forunmarried couplesto book ahotel room. ... Though it is not illegal forunmarried couplestostaytogether, it is at the discretion of thehotels, to allow or not to allowunmarried couplestostayin theirhotel.
So the issue of privacy for unmarried couples is not just restricted to parks and gardens but also extends to finding a good hotel room to stay for a few hours.
It is a blatant lie when hoteliers tell you that the law does not permit them to rent out rooms to unmarried couples.
Not a single law mentions anywhere that an unmarried couple cannot stay together in a hotel. Judges and senior lawyers have openly clarified that there is no such Act or Clause in the Indian Constitution which prohibits hotels, lodges, home stays from giving rooms to unmarried couples. The reality is that not giving a room to unmarried couples is, in fact, a violation of their fundamental rights.
In a nutshell, it is okay to stay at any hotel anywhere in India with your partner. There is no law that would prohibit an unmarried couple from staying in any hotel across India. However, remember not to indulge in any illegal or suspicious activities or criminal activities during his/her stay in the hotel, in which case the hotel may inform the police authorities.
