PMO leader vs. project manager

- I'm always glad when I'm asked the difference between a PMO leader and Project Manager. It makes me happy to learn that the person asking a question at least acknowledges that there's a difference between the two. Thinking that PMO leader and Project Manager are the same roles is like reasoning that the Finance Manager role is the same as Finance Director. Yes, a project manager can evolve into a PMO leader and PMO leader can serve as a project manager for a short duration. But there are distinct differences between the roles. As my friend, who is an accomplished PMO leader says, "You cannot become the PMO leader by becoming a better project manager because it's not the same job." There is the obvious distinction between being a leader and a manager. A leader focuses on doing the right things. A manager works on doing things right. A leader eyes the horizon. A manager focuses on the bottom line. There are many aspects of valid comparisons here, but I won't delve into them. That's…
