New federal forms in the 1099 series reporting miscellaneous information and nonemployee compensation are to be used starting in tax year 2022, not 2021, an Internal Revenue Service official said Jan. 6.
Tax filers should use the 2021 versions of Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC to report income for tax year 2021, the official said during the monthly payroll industry teleconference. The 2021 Form 1099-NEC is to be filed electronically or on paper by Jan. 31, and the 2021 Form 1099-MISC is to be filed by Feb. 28 on paper and by March 31 electronically, according to the instructions for 2021 ...
