Microsoft’s prices for Office 2019 bundles make one thing clear, Microsoft really doesn’t want people buying Office 2019.
The retail prices are high and there’s less chance for retail discounts. There’s less competition on the perpetual license products compared to Microsoft 365 Home ‘subscription’ which is usually available for less than the headline price.
Not just higher prices. Office 2019 has less support than Microsoft’s own ‘fixed’ policy requires.

Single licence – no swapping
Office 2019 is sold as a single licence only.
You can move Office 2019 to another computer installing it on another computer and uninstalling from the old one.
But NO switching between Windows and Mac versions of Office 2019. Each licence is for either Windows or Mac, not both.
There’s NO option for installing on both a desktop and laptop computer – that type of Microsoft Office licence has long gone. If you want Office 2019 on two computers, you have to buy two copies (licences).
Office 2019 Professional
The largest retail Office 2019 suite, the official price is US$440 for Office 2019 Professional.
That’s $80 more than the equivalent Office 2016 Professional, selling for $360 on Amazon.
It has the 2019 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Publisher. Office 2019 Professional has just one licence for a single PC/Mac.
Office 2019 Home and Business
Office 2019 with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook will set you back US$250 for a single PC/Mac license.
Office 2019 Home and Student
Office 2019 with Word, Excel and PowerPoint (no Outlook) costs US$150 for a single PC/Mac license.
Office 2019 Professional Plus
Office 2019 Professional Plus for Windows is only available to volume licence customers. The single licence price (no software assurance) is US$559.
It has the Office 2019 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher and Skype for Business.
Office 2019 Standard
Office 2019 Standard for Windows is only available to volume licence customers. The single licence price (no software assurance) is US$410
It has the Office 2019 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher. No Access nor Skype for Business.
Office 2019 for Mac
The volume licence choice for Mac users is blandly called ‘Office 2019 for Mac’. It includes Office 2019 Mac versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. The single licence price (no software assurance) is US$410, the same as Office 2019 Standard (though there’s no Publisher in the Mac bundle).
