Brice R.

The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

Purdue University

The Voyage program at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman has been a challenging yet motivational experience, which I would highly recommend to any individual interested in the hospitality industry. From day one I was immersed into the Marriott culture and provided with all of the tools and resources needed to succeed in this dynamic environment. This program has provided me with incredible opportunities to develop my own projects and initiate improvements. I was able to work directly with the property’s management team that places a high emphasis on leadership development. I am proud to say that I’m a Marriott Voyager, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center, Texas, USA

Johnson & Wales University

I began my career at Marriott as an intern at the Gaylord Texan, and I was fortunate enough to be hired back as a Culinary Voyager. I started in the banquets kitchen and learned a lot about operations, food quality, and work relationships. The Marriott culture reminded me daily of why I chose this program. I was given many opportunities to express my passion through my work and was able to both teach and learn from everyone around me. After I graduated from Voyage, the Gaylord Texan hired me as the Sous Chef of banquets! There is no doubt that I was hired because of the accelerated learning the Voyage program provided. I am truly thankful to be a part of Marriott!

Frederico B.

Lisbon Marriott Hotel, Lisbon, Portugal

Técnico Lisboa

My Voyage experience began when I started working at the Lisbon Marriott Hotel as an Assistant Chief Engineer. The Engineering team was excellent in introducing me to the discipline as well as showing me around the facility. I have been very impressed with the level of training available to me. Our work in the hotel has been focused on developing the Kaizen/3s methodology in the department as well as running the day-to-day maintenance. Having a background in construction and civil engineering, I was fortunate enough to contribute directly to the successful renovation of 80 rooms and other “back of the house” areas, as well as promoting new use for unexplored public spaces. I was able to understand how owner relations develop and how important they are to our work. The work environment is great, and everyone with no exception contributed to my successful integration into the hotel. I hope I can continue to contribute to the success of this company and give back all the support that was given to me so far.

Madeline B.

The Original Atlanta Airport Marriott, Georgia, USA

College of Charleston

My experience has consisted of hands-on training that has tested my ability to achieve the Marriott’s core values. I have worked toward creating a personal connection by being thoughtful, responding to cues by being dynamic, and making every experience brilliant by being inventive. My field training has been supported by online modules that break the art of hosting into bite size pieces. Although I am only one month into my Voyage, I can proudly say that I have found a home in Marriott and that I have had the best experience!

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center, Texas, USA

University of North Texas

My experience in the Voyage Program has been one of the best yet most challenging experiences of my life. It has enhanced my understanding of the hotel industry, which has improved my knowledge of what it takes to succeed at Marriott. I have learned a lot about myself and where I need to improve. As an Events Voyager, I had the opportunity to work in 11 different departments, such as Housekeeping, Front Desk, and Special Events. I have built relationships with the associates, while learning aspects from each department that will assist me further in my career. When I began working with recruiters at local colleges, I realized I had a passion for helping others with their future careers. From the vigorous online Voyage training, to joining the great “Life at Marriott” Snapchat team, to one-on-one meetings with my coach and champions, I have learned a great deal. This program has encouraged me to ask questions and step out of my comfort zone. It has showed me how to become a leader and how to work with employees in all departments. I am grateful for the Voyage Program because it has provided me the ability to work in the profession of my dreams and has started me down a long and great career path with an incredible company, Marriott International.

Courtyard Boston Downtown, Massachusetts, USA

Working in the hospitality industry is not your average job; it’s a lifestyle. It’s an industry that is bursting with people who are passionate, hardworking, and have a genuine interest in helping others. I applied for the Voyage Program in September of my senior year, and after one meeting with the recruiter, I knew that I had to work for the company. The love that associates have for the company was inspiring and motivating. This program opens you up to experiences that will help you grow both professionally and personally. It’s hands-on and lots of hard work, but it’s rewarding!I was exposed to so many different facets of Food & Beverage and was given the opportunity to take the lead on initiatives and execute my own projects and ideas. From assisting with menu design, to implementing a new restaurant concept, to cross training in the banquet department, to shadowing others on property, and to managing my own team, I gained knowledge that I will take with me through the rest of my career. My most memorable moment from my time in the Voyage Program was running the “Bourbon Battle” at our hotel. It required a lot of pre-planning and coordination with other departments, and it turned out to be an amazing event. It was such an exciting time for our property and my team, and it was my proudest moment as a manager! Having successfully completed the program, I am now a Catering Sales Executive at the Boston Marriott Quincy.

David H.

Renaissance Suzhou Hotel, Suzhou, China

University of Queensland

I started my journey at the JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai at Tomorrow Square where I worked with a fantastic HR team, including the Training Manager who was my coach and the Director of Human Resources who was my champion. They played the most significant role in my 18-month program; they coached me from a student who knew nothing to an independent manager. They not only focused on improving my professional competence through trainings, but they also helped me develop my management skills by sharing their past experiences. There were many ways for me to learn and grow such as Voyage’s core training, its online curriculum platform, and its social collaboration and resource sharing platform. I was the first ambassador for my continent for the Global Voyage social collaboration tool, which tasked me with sharing ideas and communicating with Voyagers all over the world. Furthermore, the Voyage Program brought me great opportunities to attend area activities and meet senior leaders – I was always inspired by communicating with them. All these experiences allowed me to grow quickly and become well prepared to take the next position. I have since graduated from the program and am now working at the Renaissance Suzhou Hotel as an Assistant Training Manager.

The Voyage Program is an incredible experience and a great opportunity for anyone that gets it! You get well-rounded knowledge of hotel management and are encouraged to take initiative through activities, trainings, projects, and day-to-day work life. I had a very supportive team that helped me grow and develop myself professionally and even personally. But the best part about this program is the exposure we have to senior leadership and the connections we make. I never dreamt that I would be having conversations with Area VPs and Senior VPs! I graduated from the program and am now working at the Marriott Abu Dhabi Cluster (five hotels) as the Revenue Executive.

Anthony S.

JW Marriott Essex House New York, New York, USA

Widener University

I spent my four years as a hospitality management major at Widener University working hard to hopefully one day work for Marriott. I was beyond excited when that possibility became a reality and I was offered a position at the JW Marriott Essex House New York in the Voyage Program. The program is like nothing else, offering challenging courses and classes, departmental rotations, and networking opportunities that have shaped me into a stronger leader. Acting as a manager from day one of the program, I was exposed to scenarios that I would not have experienced with any other management program. After working in several different departments in the hotel, I was able to stay at the property as a Front Desk Manager when the program ended. I am extremely grateful for the way the program shaped me into the leader that I am today.

Melissa M.

South Central Sales Office, Texas, USA

University of North Texas

As a Sales Voyager, I was one of the first Voyagers to work in the South Central Sales office. I started with four other Voyagers, and we all relied on each other through training and the beginning stages of our career with Marriott. My first few months were in training; I was learning how to sell and familiarizing myself with the market. Over the next year, I worked on the Houston Team selling rooms and event spaces to groups with 10-99 people. Around this time the oil and gas market in Houston started to crash, and I needed to quickly learn to adapt and collaborate with my stakeholders and revenue partners. This experience taught me a lot about the ever-changing world of sales and how to anticipate the future of your market, customers, and budget.I was also able to take initiative in my office as the Chair of the Hospitality Committee. As Chair, I took a leadership role in local and statewide events. After graduating Voyage I was promoted to a Sales Manager position, and I now work from home representing 16 hotels in the greater Houston area.

Our Global Voyage Leadership Development Program is offered in more than 50 countries around the world for recent university graduates and provides a combination of practical hands-on experience and leadership training. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will have gained the confidence and skillset needed to embark on a successful career with Marriott International.

Voyage is a self-paced 12-18 month program. Timing can depend on the discipline and country you are working in. The program is designed to prepare participants for an entry-level management role after successful completion of the program. You’ll work with your Champion and Coach to find the right position for you.

To participate in Voyage, permanent work authorization for that country is required. We do not provide work authorizations so please be sure you have authorization before you apply. The process is different in the Middle East and Africa – you should work with local authorities to acquire appropriate permits to work in a particular country. Our interviewers will be able to provide you with information on the right to work in any particular country during the screening process.

We do require permanent work authorization for the country in which you’re interested. We’d recommend applying where you have work authorization. Once you’ve completed the program and are part of Marriott’s network, it can become easier to pursue transfer opportunities within. If you are a student or recent graduate interested in working in the U.S., you may want to consider J-1 opportunities instead of Voyage.

It varies from year to year but we anticipate hiring approximately 500-800 Voyagers annually around the world.
