If the NECK GOES, you WON’T be able to take the RACING LINE!Because what you see will never be directly straight. And the force will never be directly side on! “The high gravitational loads placed on the body to run the fast line can strain your neck, if your neck fatigues you will not be able to run the fast line” Mark Webber When Mark Webber expanded on this he discussed how during one race he noticed Jensen Button was using his thumb to hold his head….once Webber saw this he knew that Button would not be a threat to him during the race (cited from Ferguson, 2019). ….It was a neck injury which also prevented Michael Schumacher’s return to the sport. To drive a fast car fast, you need to be able to take the racing line. If your neck is gone (fatigue / pain) then you will not be able to take the racing line! You will lose lap time. Therefore training the neck in all planes of movement is vital to withstand all external forces that may come your way. Give it a go. Hold for 10 secs then complete 3 diagonal looks upwards and 3 downwards.
