For Android

Find and click on Settings. How to check your WiFi security (5)

Click on Wi-Fi. How to check your WiFi security (6)

If there is a padlock over the signal symbol besides your network, your network is protected.

For iOS

Find and click on Settings. How to check your WiFi security (8)

If you see a lock besides your network name, your network is secured.

For Windows 10

From the Start menu, select Wifi Settings. The Wifi Settings opens.

Click Manage known networks.

Click the current wifi network your are connected to, and click Properties.

Next to Security type, if it says something such as WEP or WPA2, your network is protected.

For Windows 8

On the Charms bar, click .How to check your WiFi security (15)

Click How to check your WiFi security (16). Available networks are displayed.

In the WiFi section:

  • Hover your cursor over a network name to view a pop-up that lists the security type.
  • If that does not work, right-click a network and select View Connection Properties. The current security type is displayed in the Security type drop-down list.

If the security type is something such as WEP or WPA2, your network is protected.

For Windows 7 or Windows Vista

  • From the Start menu, select Control Panel. The Control Panel opens.
  • Click Network and Internet.
  • Click Network and Sharing Center. The Network and Sharing Center opens.
  • Click Manage Wireless Networks. The Manage Wireless Networks page opens, displaying a list of the networks within range.
  • Next to your network name, if it says something such as Security: WEP or Security: WPA2, your network is protected.
