  • Summary

You can choose the path you want your character to take when it comes to worshipping the deities that exist in the world of Conan Exiles. Your early choices in the game will influence your destiny, even though it is possible to fix your worst choices later since you can learn every functional religion during your gameplay.

Each Conan Exiles god seems to have a dark side, but they still bring you some benefits if you worship them during your journey through the game.

As a feature, religion is useful but something you can opt out of, even though the game forces you to choose a Conan Exiles religion once you start playing it, but Crom will not bother you for sure.

Every Conan Exiles Religion and God

People in the Hyborian Age worshipped several deities. Therefore, there are multiple religions in Conan Exiles that players can choose to learn.

Crom

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (3)

Cromis the god of Cimmerians who doesn’t like to be praised. Freedom of choice is something that does exist in Conan Exiles, but choosing to worship Crom may not be the best idea as he doesn’t answer prayers.

Since he offers no advantages and unlocks no crafting recipes, choosing a different religion during your character creation is recommended.

Mitra

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (4)

Mitra is the god of Hyborians who despises other gods’ worshippers (especially Set worshippers) and all around anything evil. Mitra worshippers should avoid anything that corrupts their minds. Worshipping Mitra comes with some benefits like accessing items that improve the character’s health or quench its thirst.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (5)

Set

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (6)

Set is the old Great Serpent god of the Stygians. Worshipping Set is signing a contract with a wicked god that demands the sacrifice of innocent souls. One of its arch-enemies is Mitra. As serpents and other creatures can poison you, this mighty Serpent will provide you with an antidote in exchange for your devotion.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (7)

Yog

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (8)

Yog is the god of the cannibals and demands its worshippers to consume the flesh of other humans as a part of its doctrine to become ritually clean and gain more strength in battle. Yog isn’t wrong. Choosing to worship it gives you access to an exotic type of meat that, once consumed, is proven to make you healthier.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (9)

Ymir

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (10)

Ymir is the god of the people of the north and is considered the lord of war. His avatar represents one of the Frost Giants that may be his children, together with Atali, who haunts men up north, luring them to their own death.

Obtaining shards from the Outer Dark and a potion that will increase your rage and strength is possible if you choose to worship the god who dwells in the northern mountains.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (11)

Jhebbal Sag

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (12)

Jhebbal Sagis the god who hunts and is the leader of the animal gods. Do not underestimate the power of the Lord of Beasts! Worshipping Jhebbal Sag gives you abilities such as luring creatures, seeing better during night, and purifying blood.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (13)

Derketo

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (14)

Derketo is the goddess of lust, pleasure, and death. She and her cult have two faces. Worshipping her means engaging in rituals of depraved acts and sacrifices that lead to the death of whoever falls in her worshippers’ hands.

Derketo offers you the power of transmutation, meaning you can obtain useful items from the most despicable resources.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (15)

Zath

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (16)

Zathis the spider god of Yezud, whose worshippers demand that humans serve it. Even though it’s a god of darkness, the Priests of Zath have moral patterns and need to live by them.

Worshipping Zath allows you to weave a contract with spiders and even carry and adopt a spider companion to aid you in battle. Spiders through the map will still try to kill you, though.

How to Learn Religions

Religions can be learned differently in Conan Exiles, depending on the type of religion the player is trying to learn in the game.

Character Customization

Except for Jhebbal Sag, religions are available at the beginning of the game during the player’s character customization. However, the player can choose to worship one god only to begin with. If you wish to avoid following a religious path, opt for Crom instead since he doesn’t need an altar to show devotion.

This doesn’t mean that choosing any other religion will force you to make extra efforts to worship other gods, but that can bring some benefits in the long run if you make good use of what they have to offer you.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (18)

Using Knowledge points

Like for anything else under the Knowledge section, you can unlock/learn more religions and their related altars by spending Knowledge points on the ones available in the Religion tab.

You will not see anything about Crom there because it does not require worshipping, and the Jhebbal Sag recipes will only show there once you unlock them after consuming a specific item to learn this religion.

The cost to learn each religion previously available in the Knowledge section is about 50 Knowledge points. Spending these points for learning a religion will grant you access to the tier 1 altar and the first recipes related to that specific religion you have just unlocked.

From now on, you will only need to reach level 20 and spend 5 Knowledge points to unlock the tier 2 religious altar and item recipes linked to it, no matter how you have previously learned the religion.

To unlock the tier 3 altar and the most advanced recipes from each religion the requirements are obviously a little higher – level 50 and about 11 Knowledge points to unlock a fully upgraded altar.

Unlocking the Blessings of each religion god and the highest tier recipes can only be achieved when your character reaches level 60, at the cost of 7 Knowledge points.

If you want to prevent yourself from spending 50 Knowledge points unlocking religions you didn’t choose during your character creation, there are cheaper ways of unlocking them.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (19)

Religion Teachers

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (20)

Even though there is a cheaper way of learning/unlocking religions, it doesn’t mean there isn’t any effort behind it.

Choosing to unlock religions in a different form other than using Knowledge points still requires exploration to make it possible. Alternatively, you can find some Religion Teachers through the map that will teach you the available religions you wish to unlock.

They are harmless NPCs who will talk to you briefly. Interacting with them will also allow you to learn religious Knowledge and grant access to the tier 1 altars and the item recipes related to the learned religions. These teachers are only in the Exiled Lands.

If you are playing in the Isle of Siptah DLC map or are not up to find the teachers in the Exiled Lands, you can try learning the religions by consuming the religious items instead.

All teacher NPCs locations are marked in the Exiled Lands map below.

Note that the Child of Jhebbal Sag is only the NPC with the clue that will lead you to the location with the item to learn Jhebbal Sag religion, not a teacher.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (21)

You can learn some new emotes through these teachers too:

  • Set religion teacher, Mek-kamoses teaches the “By Set” emote;
  • Mitra religion teacher, Muriela the Artisan teaches the “By Mitra” emote;
  • Yog religion teacher, Nunu the Cannibal teaches the “Cheer” emote.
Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (22)

Religious Items

Another way of unlocking certain religions in Conan Exiles is by using religious items found during your gameplay. These rare items are found in both Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah maps.

For most religions, you must kill and loot Tier 4 Priests (named Priests) since they may drop the religious item you are looking for if you want to learn more religions for free. For example, Set tier 4 Priests will drop the Eye of Set when killed.

Consuming the Eye of Set will unlock your Acolyte of Set Knowledge for free. You still need to spend resources and Knowledge points to upgrade to the higher-tier altars though.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (23)

List of religious items and which Knowledge they will unlock when you consume them:

  • Everice of Ymir – Altar to Ymir;
  • Eye of Set – Acolyte of Set;
  • Flesh of Remembrance – Bower of Jhebbal Sag;
  • Precepts of Mitra – Acolyte of Mitra;
  • Skull of Yog – Acolyte of Yog;
  • Tablet of Derketo – Pleasure Place of Derketo;
  • Tapestry of Zath – Nest of Zath.
Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (24)

The Flesh of Remembrance is the only way of learning the Jhebbal Sag religion. Consuming this flesh will unlock it in your Knowledge section.

  • To find it in the Exiled Lands: There is a werewolf boss that drops this item on this map. To find it, you must travel to the Midnight Grove by drinking a Potion of Midnight. You can obtain this potion after you speak to the Child of Jhebbal Sag NPC found by the Exiled Lands at D-8 on the map grid, between The Den camp and the Slaveway passage. Once you reach the final part of the Midnight Grove, kill the Brother of the Blood werewolf boss and harvest its corpse to collect the Flesh of Remembrance and consume it.
  • To find it in the Isle of Siptah: You can’t teleport into the Midnight Grove even if you craft the Potion of Midnight. However, there is a specific surge you can summon from the Leyshrines of the map that will spawn human Child of Jhebbal Sag worshippers for you to kill – they have a chance of dropping the Flesh of Remembrance for you to learn the religion in this DLC map.

If you get a religious item from a religion you have already learned, you don’t have to throw that item away. All of these religious items can be placed inside altars, and you can make with them Burn Offerings in exchange for 20 Manifestations of Zeal.

But these items need to be inside altars from opposite religions to give you those Manifestations of Zeal. For example, if you place a Tablet of Derketo inside a Mitra altar, you can craft Burn Offerings with it and obtain 20 Manifestations of Zeal.

Religion Knowledge Tiers

While worshipping a deity, your character can have access to special items and religious-themed consumables, tools, clothing, weapons, and decorative pieces. Once you learn a new religion, all of the tier 1 Knowledge recipes that belong to that religion are automatically unlocked.

This applies to every religion except Crom. To learn advanced religious Knowledge from each religion and more recipes, you must keep leveling up your character and earn enough Knowledge points.

To upgrade an altar to the next tier, you must collect building resources and obtain enough god’s favor from the religion your character worships in the form of Manifestations of Zeal to make it possible.

These Manifestations of Zeal result from crafting the available items inside altars and can be used to make some items inside them as well.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (27)

Thetier 1religious Knowledge unlocks:

  • Tier 1 altar;
  • One religious harvesting tool recipe;
  • 1-5 random craftable item recipes (depending on the religion);
  • The ability to burn Offerings to obtain a god’s favor (in the form of a Manifestation of Zeal).
Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (28)

Thetier 2religious Knowledge unlocks:

  • An upgrade to the tier 1 altar;
  • Religious armor pieces (all religions);
  • Random craftable item recipes (Mitra: Statue of Refreshment; Set: Snake Arrow; Yog: Yoggite Bone Spear; Derketo: 3 Transmute recipes; Jhebbal Sag: Blood purification and 4 creature Lures).
Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (29)

Thetier 3religious Knowledge unlocks:

  • An upgrade to the tier 2 altar;
  • Religious weapons (Zath, Mitra, Set, Yog, Ymir);
  • Food – a feast to the god of the religion you have previously learned (all religions except Zath);
  • One decorative item (all religions except Derketo);
  • Random craftable item recipes (Jhebbal Sag: Creature Lures; Ymir: Black Ice; Zath: Extract/Silk).
Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (30)

Thetier 4religious Knowledge unlocks:

  • Blessed tools (upgraded versions of the harvesting tools; all religions);
  • Religious weapons (all religions).
Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (31)

Religious harvesting tools are crafted at tier 1 altars and classified as hallowed tools that give you the ability to perform ritual harvests. If you unlock all the Knowledge from the religion you have learned, you can later craft a blessed harvesting tool.

The blessed tools are more durable and heavier than the normal ones. Each harvesting tool serves a similar purpose and is used only on one kind of target – human corpses**. So make sure to harvest their corpses with a religious tool to collect special items.

Placing the items you obtain with these harvesting tools at altars will allow you to craft diverse religious things and gain the favor of the god your character is worshipping.

You can collect only one special item from a human corpse, even if you switch to another kind of religious harvesting tool. For example, if you need a Human Heart and two Lingering Essences, you must harvest 3 corpses in total.

** The Zathite Ritual Dagger can also be used on spiders’ corpses. Instead of Venom-purified Blood, using this dagger on such creatures will result in collecting a Zathite Bag instead, which you should open to obtain Bones, Ichor, Weathered Skulls, and a random animal Carcass.

Available religious harvesting tools and which resources they can collect:

  • Blood Letter (Jhebbal Sag) – Sacred Blood
  • Derketo’s Kiss (Derketo) – Sliver of the Unfulfilled
  • Hoar-Frost Hatchet (Ymir) – Ice Shard
  • Mitraen Ankh (Mitra) – Lingering Essence
  • Setite Ritual Knife (Set) – Human Heart
  • Yog Cleaver (Yog) – Umblemished Human Meat
  • Zathite Ritual Dagger (Zath)** – Venom-purified Blood/Zathite Bag

Avatars

Religious avatars represent the gods from the existing religions of Conan Exiles (except Crom). Avatars are enormous creatures in comparison with anything else you have seen while exploring the map since they are the embodiment of a celestial force.

You are able to summon an avatar once you earn enough favor from the god of the religion you have been worshipping.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (33)

The process of summoning an avatar takes a while, and avatars only last for a short period of time until they disappear. This is a chance of dealing damage to other players’ bases since avatars are one of the diverse forms of base raiding in Conan Exiles.

Avatars damage and may destroy not only whatever crosses their path, but also player-built structures made of building pieces from any material!

With this said, avatars are only useful on servers with the avatar summoning and player structure damage options enabled, which is a common thing around PvP and PvE-C servers but not so much on PvE servers or Single Player/Co-op mode.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (34)

How to Summon Avatars

There are a few steps before you can summon a god avatar. You can do it once you have fully upgraded your altar to tier 3.

Once you upgrade the altar, you must capture a Named Priest (tier 4) and place it in the altar thrall slot. It is crucial to gain plenty of favor from the god of the religion you want to summon the avatar from if you wish to advance with this, and that takes a lot of effort from you to make it possible.

500 Manifestations of Zeal are required to craft the item used in the summoning process. This item should carry the name of the god from the religion your character is worshipping and starts with “True Name of…” (for example, if you craft it at a Yog temple, then the item is called “True Name of Yog”).

Once you are at the desired location to summon the god’s avatar, use this item.

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (35)

NOTE: Creating the item (“True Name of …”) at an altar to summon one avatar will destroy the altar and your Named Priest (other items you have inside the altar will drop to the ground)!

So, if you want to summon a new avatar later, you must craft and upgrade a new altar again, making the avatar summoning process expensive.

The player’s character is vulnerable during the avatar summoning process but also while the player is controlling the avatar. If the character dies, the ritual gets canceled, and the avatar disappears too early. Also, avatars are not invulnerable to attacks – they can take ranged damage and be destroyed too!

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (36)

Avatar Protection

Gods’ avatars are not immortal! You can try defending your base from the enemy avatars’ attacks by:

  • Throwing projectiles at them using arrows and siege boulders or demon-fire barrages from trebuchets;
  • Killing the player who has summoned the avatar;
  • Performing a ritual of protection. This ritual creates two protective domes (a dome of big dimensions with a smaller one inside it), which are shields of protection with a radius of a certain size that can defend your base against avatars. Make sure to place the altar strategically to make your base mostly or totally protected since the center of the outer dome is the altar itself. This kind of protection will keep avatars away from your territory by attacking them repeatedly with lightning bolts to shorten their lifetime if they dare to approach. Players cannot summon avatars inside the smaller dome but can summon them inside the bigger dome. However, the avatars can’t stand big chances against the constant lightning bolt strikes from the defensive shield, since they will be destroyed quickly after the summoning ritual is complete, so there is no point for a player to summon them within the dome area. A fully upgraded altar is needed to make the avatar protection ritual. The ritual name varies depending on the religion’s altar you choose to protect your base. For example, you can craft the Ritual: Ymir’s Protection at the Exalted Altar of Ymir. The ritual costs 500 Manifestations of Zeal and requires at least a tier 3 priest (Archpriest) inside a tier 3 altar. This anti-avatar defense strategy is temporary, lasting 36 hours, meaning you will need to repeat the process later. You can remove the Archpriest from your altar at any time, but if your altar is removed or destroyed, the protection stops, so make sure to protect the altar from attacks. If there were other items inside the altar, these are dropped to the ground once the altar disappears so you can retrieve them.

Priests

Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (40)

Priests in Conan Exiles are at several points of interest, among other human NPCs. A Priest can be knocked out and converted at any Wheel of Pain and later placed at a religious altar thrall slot.

You can find Priests for each type of religion with altars, so make sure you add the correct priest to the altar from the god they worship.

Like other crafting station thralls, there are four different tiers of Priests. Priests from each tier are known as:

  • Tier 1 – Priests
  • Tier 2 – High Priests
  • Tier 3 – Archpriests
  • Tier 4 – Named Priests
Conan Exiles Religion Guide - Conan Fanatics (41)

Archpriests will help you with the process of protecting your base against enemy avatars by unlocking the ritual of protection inside your upgraded altar.

Named Priests are the ones able to help you with both base protection against avatars and also allow you to get the item required to summon an avatar.

You can find some “specialty” worker NPCs in the game, including certain kinds of Named Priests. Besides offering you the ability to summon avatars, some of these Named Priests will also allow you to craft gear with improved stats:

  • Confessor – increases the damage of any crafted piece
  • Guardian – increases the durability of any crafted piece
  • Seneschal – increases the armor value of any crafted piece

FAQs – Conan Exiles Religion

Question: Are Avatars the Only Alternative Out There to Raid Other Players’ Bases?

Answer: No. When it comes to raiding other players’ bases, avatars are just one of the multiple options you can pick.
There are different ways of base raiding in Conan Exiles, like casting offensive spells or using trebuchets and explosives, which can even become cheaper than summoning avatars more than once, depending on the situation.

Question: As a Corrupted Sorcerer, am I Still Allowed to Learn any Religion?

Answer: Yes. Even if priests and sorcerers don’t get along very well since pagan and holy can’t be together, religion and sorcery are two features that surprisingly work in harmony in Conan Exiles!
So you can learn any religion of the game, use altars, and craft religious items even if you are a corrupted soul who uses sorcery through your gameplay.

Question: Can I Summon Avatars Everywhere?

Answer: No. Like certain spells, you can’t summon avatars in confined environments due to their size and the space they need to move while performing their attacks.
This includes dense forests, caves, dungeons, and anywhere that is not an open area. Try in front of a player’s base instead, preferably without avatar protection.

Summary

Religions are a notable feature in Conan Exiles, offering the player a big variety of recipes to unlock through their gameplay and advantages when it comes to improving not only their character but also showing their devotion to an imaginary deity that will reward them with something the player cannot obtain by using other game features – the ability to summon an enraged avatar to destroy the structures of whoever crosses their path and also protect their base against enemy avatars.

You can opt to learn just one or every available religion in the game by unlocking the Knowledge of each of them (except for Crom, which has nothing to unlock) or learn them differently by searching for the Teachers through the map, or even finding the religious items in some NPCs corpses.

Once you have the access to the first altar and its recipes, you can start gathering resources to upgrade it to the next tier and increase your religious knowledge, which will also result in collecting more Manifestations of Zeal, meaning your character is showing enough devotion to the deity is currently worshipping.

Once you have acquired enough knowledge of a religion, you are free to choose if you want to take the next step and perform rituals inside the altar.

Capturing high-tier Priest thralls is essential if you wish to do that. Summoning every religion avatar is fun, but only useful if you are playing on the appropriate server where makes sense to use avatars.

Religions in Conan Exiles stick with Conan the Barbarian lore, especially the story behind each god, and come with different sets of items such as armor, tools and weapons, foods, decorative pieces, and a few more items you may want to take a look at – but this feature is still completely optional to use in Conan Exiles if you are not into it, pretty much like Sorcery, since there are alternatives to the items recipes and even to the ways you can raid and protect your bases in the game.

It is still worth taking a look at.
